The Focus on Film and Movies PDF Print E-mail

In 2009 we are increasingly interested in the film and move business. At first thought one would think this would be a very exciting area to be in. Yes it is. But if you really take the time to think about this, it is a financially stable place to be in. More stable than stocks these days; that's for sure. You might say to yourself, "really?" Yes it is.

Let's look at a few simple facts. The typical Hollywood budget is arouund 50 to 200 million dollars. A low budget independent film is usually around 300 thousand to 6 million dollars. The problem there is this; when you try to sell the movie or if you get a large distribution deal and actually keep some points/percentages, you might break even. What if the move only took $50,000 to $150,000 to make? Then you most assuredly make money.

Have you looked at anything on TV lately? The common phrase most people say these days is this, "500 channels and there is nothing on I want to watch." Well, the funny thing is that many of the (horrible and quite boring) movies that webt straight to video, DVD, and then cable actually made money. They were made for $300,000 and then were sold for $500,000 or a million dollars. From what I have read and heard, a crappy movie can still sell for $300,000. Can you believe this? This is how desperate Hollywood is for something. Well if you think about it, they have to fill up all those channels with SOMETHING.

Now imagine that you actually have a good script. Imagine that you have a great production company behind you. Imagine that you have good music and good actors. You price it all out and a movie can be made for under $100,000. Now you are talking because you can sell this for at least $300,000 but potentially for 1 or 4 million dollars (possibly more).

This is all a reality. This is not dream land. There are hungry and talented production companies and very creative and talented writers. How do we know all this. We work with many of them. And so this is why we are associated and interested in the film and movie business; not just because we do it and we know it and we have other people and companiesat hand, but because it is a money making proposition. In our opinion; better than stocks. Hey, who doesn't want to be a "producer" for a movie and have their name come up in the begining of the movie?
